Nikon D3 D2x D40x D200 D300 Digital SLR Cameras video review

Thursday Oct 30, 2008

Nikon D2xs Nikon D60 camera http://www.microglobe.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?pName=nikon-d80 Two and a half years ago Nikon publicized the 6 megapixel Nikon D70, their first reasonable enthusiasts digital SLR, it proved to be a very well-known camera and strong competitor to the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel). Just 15 months later Nikon revealed the Nikon D70s which was basically the same camera with a some subtle tweaks (improved AF, wider flash coverage, higher capacity battery, larger LCD monitor). And so just over 15 months on from the D70s Nikon present the latest incarnation of their ‘enthusiasts’ digital SLR line, the 10.2 megapixel Nikon D80.

The Nikon D80 slots nicely between the entry-level Nikon D50 and the semi-professional / professional Nikon D200, clearly based on the D70 design but also different enough to be seen as a completely new model. It features a ten megapixel DX format CCD (the same we presume as used by Sony in the DSLR-A100), the metering sensor from the D50 and numerous other items taken or modified from the D200. Nikon D2Hs and D2H are also wonderful cameras.

What do you think of this Camera Combination?

Wednesday Sep 1, 2010

I’m looking to buying a Semi Pro DSLR, most probably the 50D. I would hope someone to give me feedback on the kit i’m going to get? Most probably i’ll use it for some sports and macro photography. (In Singapore by the way)

Here goes:
1. Canon 50D Kit II (EF S 17-85 IS USM)
2. EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
3. EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
4. EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
5. Micro Ring Lite MR-14x
6. Speedlite 580 EX II
7. Battery Grip – BG E2N
8. Manfrotto Tripod – 055XPROB
9. Ball Head – 484RC2

I’ve had experience using the 50D, with the manfrotto 055XPROB and the same ballhead for about 3 months in my school, and i’m alright with the weight. I’m not looking for full frame cameras, as i prefer camera’s with crop factors.

The Nikon D300 is out, as its too complicated. (I’ve used the D200, borrowed from a teacher. It was his personal camera)

Unless anyone knows if Sony is going to come up with a succesor to the a700 within 3-5 months, i’m definitely going to buy the 50D.

What i want to know if this would be a good combination for my interest in Sports, macro and Landscape photos.

Also, If anyone could recommend me any other lenses i should add to the list. I don’t mind Sigma lenses as well.

Another question,
Is the 50D compatible with the 15-inch 2.66GHz Macbook Pro.

50D is a nice camera

skip the 100-400mm…maybe the 400mm prime lens?
I’d say get the 70-200mm f2.8 L
100mm f2.8 is nice
rest of the setup is good

this is a large purchase~
yes it should be compatible with the mac

Canon vs. Nikon lenses?

Wednesday Sep 1, 2010

About to buy a DSLR. D200 vs 30D. I spent some time looking at the lens offerings of both companies. I have a feeling that though I prefer D200 (cant really afford 5D), Canon has a better lens offering. Better build, especially with USM and the L series. Couldn’t get excited about any of the Nikon lenses (except the 18-200 perhaps). Which system should I buy into?

It sounds as though you are really ready to break into the world of DSLRs. You have narrowed your camera selections down to two very capable bodies. Considering lenses is the most important part of the equation. Both companies make junk, consumer level glass. Good for snapshots, not good for different types of sophisticated photography. Then, both companies make superb pro glass which are excellent for the most demanding of situations, or if you just want the absolute best shot that you can get. No matter which system you decide to go with, you will be paying high dollars for the good lenses. So, I would decide which body best suits you, figure out what type of shooting you will be doing the most (especially if you plan to make money from it), then look at the lens lineup of each company and decide who has the products that will most likely fit your needs. FYI, the build quality of pro Nikkors is no worse than that of ‘L’ Canons. USM is a nice thing on Canons as well as IS which is offered on more Canon lenses than VR is on Nikkors (if that matters to you).

David above makes a good point about the camera’s abilities these days sometimes exceeding the abilities of the person. It will probably take you a very, very long time to honestly outgrow either the 30D or the D200. In the end the system that is best is the one you feel most comfortable with. Some people use both!

Nikon D80 or D200?

Wednesday Sep 1, 2010

After thinking about which SLR I wanted between the Canon and Nikon I thought I had decided with the D80 and now there is another model that I’m interested in which is the D200.

I have never owned a digital SLR I’ve just been using a point and shoot. I’m a fine art student so if anyone could suggest which would be suitable for now I would be very grateful.

All sensible answers appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

=)
Sorry I forgot to mention this but I really enjoy shooting a lot of stuff late at night!

Apart from knowing the specs of both by heart, I’ve also used them both extensively – my wife and I just finished a 10 month round-the-world trip with these two cameras.
Most importantly, the D80 and the D200 have the same resolution and image quality. So the D200 does not take better pictures. The major advantages of the D200 are its better build quality and its faster frame rate. The better build quality enabled me to use my D200 in situations where I wouldn’t dare use the D80… like out in the rain (in combination with a weather sealed lens). And the faster frame rate enabled me to capture more moments where my timing was off (in ’spray & pray’ mode). Put those two bonuses together, and the D200 WILL let you capture some shots that you’d miss with a D80. Here’s an example: this lucky grab – one of my favorite shots of the trip – was only possible thanks to the D200’s 5 frames per second: http://www.elswhere.info/images/asia3/003_JEF0446.htm (four students on a scooter in Hanoi.)
The D200 also has a few minor advantages, such as the nicer feel of the camera, the ability change more settings on the fly vs. diving into the menu, and a slightly better auto-focus system.
Now that the D300 is on the market and the D200’s price has dropped, I can understand your dilemma. If the extra cash is no object, just get the D200. But if you’re on a budget… if you have to chose between a D200 with budget lenses or a D80 with quality optics, get the D80. Like I said, the image quality of the two cameras is identical, so which ever one has the nicest lens on it will take the best pictures.

nikon d200 what is the best software?

Wednesday Sep 1, 2010

hi friends
i am using nikon d200.what is the best & easy software
edit for my photos.nikon capture nx or photoshop?
please tell me some information for nikon capture nx
software.

Well I edit (sort) using my file manager. NOTE: I actually shoot using RAW + JPEG Basic and do my editing of the JPEG files … then when I have the final edit in its own file folder, I convert the RAW files into either high quality JPEG or TIFF files … depending upon what my client requests.

Once I have the best of the best and IF they need some further tweaking, then Photoshop is what I use.

Since I always append my XMP files with my copyright notice, contact information, client information and key words, using Photoshops Bridge (I can batch the whole shoot using this tool), Photoshop is my choice.

If you want to try Nikon’s NX program, you can download a trial program and see if it fits your needs.
